Judith Tarr has a trilogy set during the Crusades. Richard the Lionheart is a major character in the first book. The second book, which for me was probably the most memorable, takes place in Constantinople during the Fourth Crusade. Wow, did that Crusade get off track. :|

I think the trilogy is called The Hounds of God, but maybe that's just the title of the third book. I can't remember.

I had some vague wish to write a novel set during the First Crusade, but I never came up with a plot. Stephen Lawhead wrote a series based on the First Crusade, beginning with The Iron Lance.

These do sound good. I don't know much about the Crusades, but I've always wanted to learn more about them. And the medieval superhero novel which I'll get back to writing one of these days is set during the Third Crusade. So maybe I'll have to read these books!
