Sometimes, like most writers, I find myself writing backstory that needs to be written, but which I know won’t make it into the final book. When I think they’re good enough to flesh out and polish up, I’ll post them here.
Wish by a Hazel Tree
This is a prequel for my upcoming Cinderella retelling. One of the precedents I established in The Sevenfold Spell is that I weave various versions of the original story together. In the original Brothers Grimm version, Cinderella didn’t have a fairy godmother, she made her wish under a tree in her garden. This story grew from that version.
